Broncos Coach Avery Harrison receives Athletic Leadership Award

On April 15, Olds College Broncos Women’s Basketball Head Coach Avery Harrison was named an Honoured Athletic Leader by the Calgary Booster Club due to his 32 years of dedication to the betterment of basketball.

Those 32 years have seen the four time ACAC Coach of the Year travel nationwide, and beyond, capturing four ACAC Championships while mentoring a countless number of young athletes along the way.

“It is very humbling, especially after speaking with some of the other people who have won the award,” says Harrison, about to enter his second year at the reins of the Broncos. “I love being in the gym, I love sharing with the kids and watching them improve and enjoying their successes.

“After years of doing that, and being recognized for that, it’s quite an honour.”

Harrison has solidified himself as not only a formidable coach, but also a dependable force in the communities he’s been a part of, devoting hours upon hours to volunteerism in youth basketball.

Just this past year Harrison set up a club program for the Chinooks Edge School Division, and he also volunteers with the Olds Elementary “Higher Hoops Program”, where Broncos athletes visit young students to help with reading initiatives.

The Broncos are very proud of Avery for this accomplishment, and we look forward to the future of the program under his guidance.
