MISSISSAUGA, ON (March 9, 2020) – Priyanna Ramdhani had a strong showing at her inaugural CCAA Badminton National Championships. She finished the championships finishing in fourth in women's singles after a hard fought three set loss in the bronze medal game.
Ramdhani's week started out Thursday, March 5 against 2020 Player of the Year and All-Canadian Takeisha Wang (Concordia University of Edmonton, ACAC) where the first-year student-athlete fell 21-11, 21-10 to the fifth-year. Priyanna's next opponent wasn't any easier as she faced the eventual ACAC women's singles gold medal winner Huyen Le (George Brown, OCAA) where she lost 21-4, 21-8). The Sports Management student-athlete finished her Thursday against the eventual bronze medal winner, and 2019 CCAA silver medalist Anh Hoang (George Brown, OCAA).
Ramdhani, a Sports Management student from Georgetown, Guyana, bounced back on Friday with two wins, 21-4, 21-5 over Margaret Anderson (UTM, OCAA) and 21-8, 21-8 over Chloe Moison (Sainte Anne University, ACAA). She then went into the championship semi-final against undefeated Huyen Le, where she improved on her previous match against Le and lost 21-8, 21-9.
Saturday, March 3 were the medal rounds and Priyanna had a rematch with Hoang. After falling behind 21-14 in the first set Priyanna took momentum into the second set and won 21-16. She carried the momentum into an early lead in the third set, but Hoang's experience came through and Ramdhani fell 21-14 in the final set to lose 2-1 and finish in fourth.
