On Friday evening in Olds the Olds College Broncos (7-9) took down the St. Mary's University Lightning (4-12) 98-90 at the Ralph Klein Center.
Linden Jackson was a dominant force both offensively and defensively for the Broncos, scoring 34 points on the evening. Meanwhile Cordell Minnifee scored 26 for the Lightning in a losing effort.
\Jackson was perhaps the single most important reason the Broncos sustained a lead in the first half, scoring early and often, carrying the team on his back with 22 points first half on 8-15 shooting.
Meanwhile Jackson and his teammates benefited from 15 first half visitor turnovers, able to convert 18 points off the opponent's giveaways.
Though the Lightning held a brief lead in the second frame, the Broncos would pull away late and take a 50-42 lead into halftime.
Through the first three quarters, Jackson led the Broncos with a team-high 27 points, helping the Broncos gain a 70-62 lead going into the final quarter of play.
While the Lightning had no problem scoring on offense on one end, the visitors struggled to stop the Broncos offense on the other end of the court.
With the Broncos answering all the Lightning's efforts, they would cruise through the final quarter to a 98-90 victory.
