Muller, Vriend and Sexsmith bring size to OC men's volleyball

Head coach Ryan Marsden and the Olds College Broncos men's volleyball coaching staff have been busy recruiting a strong freshmen class of seven athletes from across the world to complement the eight returning student-athletes from last season.

In part two of the introduction to the recruiting class we introduce you to a trio of recruits from Saskatchewan and Alberta. Mason Muller is the son of two volleyball alumni as both his parents played volleyball for the Broncos, while Devin Vriend and Justin Sexsmith bring size at 6' 5" and 6' 3" respectively.

Here's what you need to know about these recruits:

Mason Muller: Setter, 6' 1"

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "I'm excited to be a Bronco because both my parents played volleyball for the Olds Broncos. Also, I'mexcited to play at the elite post-secondary level of volleyball."

Head Coach Ryan Marsden's analysis: "Mason is quick on his feet and very dynamic as a setter. He plays confidently and has his teammates trust and respect him. Also, a good defender, which is so important for a setter."

Devin Vriend: Middle/Right Side, 6' 5"

Hometown: Calgary, AB

High School: Centennial High School

Most Recent Club: Canada West Volleyball Club

Academic Program: Management - Production

Achievements and Accolades: 3rd in Calgary for 2017 high school season at Centennial, then finished ninth at provincials. With Canada West U17 VC finished fifth in AVA Provincials. Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "I am excited to be a Bronco because I get to continue to play the sport, I enjoy being around the team, and I'm eager to get some wins!"

Head Coach Ryan Marsden's analysis: "Devin is a big strong middle blocker. His experience playing for Canada West Volleyball Club will prove to be extremely helpful! He puts up a big block and works so hard. Devin could be a four-plus year student-athlete here at Olds College."

Justin Sexsmith: Middle/Right Side, 6' 3"

Hometown: Hepburn, SK

High School: Hepburn School

Most recent club: Jeff's Crestwear Volleyball Club (JCVC)

Why you are excited to be a Bronco: "Looking forward to continuing my development and the challenges that competing at the next level will bring."

High school coach's (Ron Sigstad) analysis: "Played over 100 games in 25 tournaments. In Grade 10 he was an integral part of winning silver in Provincials. In Grades 11 and 12 he led his team in blocks and digs while also a threat in middle attacks while keeping opposing middles at bay.

Head Coach Ryan Marsden's analysis: "I saw Justin in Saskatoon at a tourney where I noticed hum right away because of his work ethic. He rolled his ankle in a match, jumped back up and got a block on the very next play! Justin's willingness to be a part of our program will help him grow within it. We are happy to have him."
