EDMONTON, Alta. - The MacEwan University Griffins took control early, and they didn't let up en route to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Broncos at the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton on Friday.

Shyla Jans scored twice for the Griffins (8-2-0), while Dominique Scheurer added a goal and an assist. Jayme Doyle rounded out the scoring for MacEwan, while Sandy Heim made 22 saves for the shutout.

Lexi Bruce (Edmonton, Alta.) had another busy night in the Olds College net, stopping 31 of 35 MacEwan shots.

The Griffins struck just over six minutes into the opening frame as Jans intercepted a Broncos clearing attempt, then skated into the slot and beat Bruce over the blocker to put MacEwan up 1-0.

Jans found the scoresheet again with just four seconds remaining in the first, capitalizing on an Olds College line change to skate in and fire a shot high over Bruce's glove to put MacEwan up two just before the intermission.

The Griffins increased their lead to three early in the second, as an Olds College turnover in the offensive led to a 2-on-1, with Doyle converting the pass from Chantal Ricker and beating Bruce five-hole.

Scheurer iced the game midway through the third, parking herself in front of the Broncos net and tapping in a pass from Shyla Kirwer out of the corner.

Kali Cummings (Thompson, Man.) earned player of the game honours for the Broncos, while Jans was the Griffins' player of the game.

The Broncos will look to bounce back on Thursday, November 8 at 7 p.m., as they welcome the NAIT Ooks to the Town of Olds Sports Complex for the first time this season.
