Broncos Athletics and Olds College Remembers Gokarn Ramdhani

Olds, AB

On Friday, October 8, 2021 Broncos Athletics lost a valued member of the Broncos family. Head Coach of the Broncos Badminton team, Gokarn Ramdhani, passed away suddenly due to cardiac arrest in his residence in Olds, AB. 

Gokarn was an incredibly talented and dedicated coach, friend and father. He always had a giant smile and would give a friendly hello to everyone he came into contact with. His radiant personality and immense passion for his family, the Broncos, and the sport of badminton will be deeply missed by everyone. 

Gokarn was named Broncos Head Badminton Coach in 2020 after spending the 2019-20 season as the programs Assistant Coach. The Guyana native first arrived in Olds when his daughter Priyanna signed on to compete for the Broncos. Gokarn's son, Narayan, is currently in his third year of eligibility at The King's University in Edmonton. 

In addition to his role with the Broncos, Gokarn served in a number of other capacities within the badminton world, most notably as the President of the Guyana Badminton Association, Council Member on the Guyana Olympic Association and Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation, Vice President of Communications for the Badminton Pan American Confederation, 2nd Vice President of the Confederation Central American & Caribbean Badminton, and Owner and Head Coach of Yonex Badminton Club

Loved by his student-athletes, Gokarn will be remembered as a great friend and mentor on and off of the court. A technical mastermind in the badminton world, what he contributed on the court was just as valuable as the positivity and love he showed off of it. 

A memorial for Gokarn will be on display outside the Broncos Athletics office in the CLC starting October 12, 2021 and anyone wishing to pay their respects can drop by anytime.
