Broncos Announce New Rodeo Head Coach
The Olds College Broncos Rodeo team concluded their 2024-25 season with an impressive showing at the Canadian College Finals Rodeo (CCFR) in Rimbey, Alberta over the May long weekend. Although they achieved great success this year, the season ends on a bittersweet note as beloved head coach Tanner Girletz steps down.
Although they achieved great success this year, the season ends on a bittersweet note as beloved head coach Tanner Girletz steps down.
After eight years of coaching the Olds College Rodeo team, Girletz made the decision to step back and focus on his own young family. This decision was not made lightly as he has been a passionate advocate and incredible mentor for his rodeo athletes over the years.
“To finish out this season and my coaching career at Olds College with the varsity banner, personal victories, a ton of top tens and some of the best kids I’ve had in the 236 I have coached over the last few years is surreal for me,” noted Tanner. “Proud is an understatement.”
The Broncos are immensely grateful for Tanner Girletz's eight years of tireless dedication to the rodeo program. His countless hours, long days and unwavering commitment as a mentor and coach have profoundly impacted our athletes, and his legacy will not be forgotten. The entire Broncos family wishes him the best as he moves on to his next chapter!
Despite the tough goodbye, he is leaving the program in good hands as Emily Puglesy, who has been undeniable in her role as the women's coach this year, will be taking the reins as the head coach in the 2025-26 season. Her passion for the team and her pride in the athletes all season are evident.
“I want to congratulate Tanner Girletz on his eighth and final year as a coach for the Broncos,” said Pugsley. “He has paved a path for the continued growth and success of the Olds College rodeo program.”
A former Broncos athlete herself from 2018-20, Emily was a multi-event competitor. Particularly excelling in goat tying, as proven by her title of two-time Canadian College Rodeo Association goat tying season leader. She returned to the Broncos as a coach in 2023.
“We are enthusiastic about Emily and our year ahead,” commented Broncos Manager, Rachel Cunningham. “She brings consistency and dedication to our Broncos program, and I look forward to watching her team succeed.”
Congratulations to Emily as she begins her new role as the rodeo head coach!
The 2025-26 rodeo season begins in September.
