Kodiaks end Broncos win streak at 2 with 103-91 win
Jackson's 25 and Murray's 24 not enough for Broncos
OLDS- On November 17 at the Ralph Klein Center the Lethbridge College Kodiaks (4-1) shot the lights out, taking down the Olds College Broncos (2-3) by a score of 99-87.
Daniel Lybbert commanded the game from the outside for the Kodiaks, making his first five three point looks, scoring 19 points in the contest. Meanwhile teammate Keanu "Don't call me Reeves" Funa put up a team high 22 in the win.
On the losing end Linden Jackson continued his all-star play for the Broncos, making his first nine looks from the floor for a game high 25 points. Abraham Murray pitched in with 24 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
While the Broncos would settle into the game late in the opening quarter, the first five minutes were dominated by the Kodiaks as they jumped ahead to a 15 point lead.
Lybbert's shooting prowess was a large reason for the Kodiaks success, firing a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Broncos would buckle down in the second quarter, and behind 17 first half points from Jackson would narrow the gap to 11 at end of the half, down 58-47.
Jackson continued his high-caliber performance into the third quarter, finishing the frame with a game-high 25 points to bring the Broncos within six down 76-70 going into the fourth.
The Kodiaks would come out hot in the fourth quarter, going on a 7-2 run, forcing a Mike Stevens timeout for the Broncos.
The Kodiaks would sustain their lead comfortably until two minutes left in the game when Samuel Willis III drove the hoop, making a layup in traffic while drawing a foul to get the Broncos within six points.
However that was as close as the Broncos would come, as the Kodiaks were able to make back to back baskets to retain their 10 point lead. The Kodiaks shut Jackson down in the fourth, allowing zero points to the guard in the quarter, and would end the contest up 103-91.
Lethbridge will travel to Red Deer tomorrow at 8 P.M. for a match with the Kings, while the Broncos travel to Calgary for an 8 P.M. match vs. Ambrose.
