Broncos drop contest to Medicine Hat
Poor rebounding leads to Broncos first loss of 2018
On Friday evening in Olds, the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (7-2), toppled the Olds College Broncos (4-4) 97-67.
The Rattlers brought down twice as many rebounds as the Broncos, a major reason why they were able to deliver such a beating to Olds. Both DeAngelo Ashley and Osato Obaseki recording double-doubles in the victory.
Ashley would be named player of the game following the contest, scoring 16 points. Meanwhile on the other side of the court Abraham Murray was named the Broncos player of the game scoring 21 points.
The hot Rattlers team shot well in the first quarter, with Ashley leading the crew with nine points to put Medicine Hat up 25-18 after the first quarter.
Following a Mike Stevens second quarter timeout, the Broncos went on a 7-2 run, capped off by a Terrance Crisostoma three pointer, to make the score 35-28.
Thomas Laxdal silenced the Ralph Klein Center minutes later, though, converting a big three point jumper to get his team back up 11, 41-29.
From there the Rattlers scored nine of the next 11 points, with a Vince Munoz jump shot triggering a Broncos timeout.
From the timeout, an Abraham Murray three-pointer would be all the Broncos could muster, falling behind 54-34 going into the break.
The Rattlers flew out of the locker room, as a Justin King 3-pointer forced a Broncos timeout on the wrong end of a 9-0 run less than two minutes in. In total, the Broncos only managed to score 11 points in the third quarter, falling behind 76-45 going into the fourth.
The second and third quarters belonged to Medicine Hat, outscoring the Broncos 51-27 during the twenty minutes of action.
The Rattlers would cruise from there to take the contest easily.
The teams will have a rematch tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M.
