Broncos Women’s Basketball battle hard but come up short
St. Mary’s University Lightning won the battle over the Olds College Broncos with a score of 79-64 on January 22, 2022 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

St. Mary's University Lightning won the battle over the Olds College Broncos with a score of 79-64 on January 22, 2022 at the Ralph Klein Centre.
The first quarter was close with both teams working hard. St.Mary's Macyn Morning Bull and Madi Gladstone led the Lighting early with a combined thirteen points of the teams eighteen points. For the Broncos it really was a strong team effort to only trail St.Mary's by one point headed into the second quarter.
Macyn Morning Bull continued to be a powerful force on the court for the Lighting and contributed nine of the eighteen points in the quarter. While the Broncos Mackenzie Hooson, Haley-Jo Heggie and Amelia Furst with some great passing all helped Olds College keep the score gap relatively small. The score at the end of the second quarter was 36-29.
Another very strong quarter for both teams as the Broncos work to earn twenty-one points while the Lightning earn thirty-one points. Maitlynn Wilde and Maycn Morning Bull help out at the net with rebounds while teammate Dayna Osterling lights up the board with eleven points. Olds College Broncos worked hard to remain offensive but also stay strong defensively. The score headed into the fourth quarter was 67-50.
The final minutes of play the Broncos tried hard to close the scoring gap and ended up with one more basket than the Lighting but it just wasn't enough. The Lighting played defensively and were able to take the win by fifteen points.
The player of the game for the St. Mary's Lighting was number 20, Macyn Morning Bull and player of the game for the Broncos was number 10, Mackenzie Hooson.
