The Olds College Broncos Women's Hockey Team is ready for the second season!
The Olds College Broncos Women's Hockey are back in action for their second season competing in the competitive ACAC league. After finishing their inaugural season with a record of (5-18-1) the Broncos are returning 11 from their inaugural season and bring in 11 new recruited players, to round out the 2016-17 edition of the OC Broncos. Among key returners are 4th year forwards Krista Wilson and Cassidy Holt, 3rd year forward Chelsea Broadhead, and 2nd year defense Dana Hauck.
In addition to a strong core-returning group, the Broncos have added considerable depth up front and on the back end. Up front, the Broncos have added Hanna Matchett from Nanton, Alberta, Paige Bue from Beaverlodge, Alberta, Tori Chenier from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Mallory Harvey from Warren, Manitoba, Becca Hogan from Spruce Grove, Alberta, Allison Higgins from Moosomin, Saskatchwan, and Faith Volk from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. On the back end, the Broncos have added Hunter Joseph from Chiliwack, BC, Tracy Prybylski from Willowbrook, Saskatchewan, and Sinja Paurat from Berlin, Germany. Finally, the Broncos have added Goaltender Catalina Hartland from Kaslo, British Columbia.
Among key recruits are Hannah Matchett and Tracy Prybylski. Matchett, a first year forward from Nanton, Alberta competed with the Rocky Mountain Raiders of the AMMFHL who represented Alberta at the Esso Cup in 2016. Matchett brings strength in the middle and a creative side that will help in depth for this upcoming season. Along with Matchett, the Broncos have added freshman defence Tracy Prybylski from Willowbrook, Saskatchewan. Prybylski bring a calmness to the defensive core and tremendous leadership potential. Prybylski captained the Melville Prairie Fire the previous two season, and will continue to that leadership to the young Broncos team.
The Broncos are excited for the upcoming season and will continue to develop a high performance program working on development and producing leaders in our community. The Broncos will start their regular season on October 13th against the Macewan University Griffins at the Olds Sportsplex.
