Two goals from Brodie lifts Broncos past Rattlers
Broncos tie Rattlers in southern standings with big win
OLDS, AB- On Saturday afternoon, the Olds College Broncos (2-1-1) managed to take down the second seeded Medicine Hat Rattlers (2-1-1) by the score of 2-1.
While the Broncos played a solid team game, Rachel Brodie and Auslin McDaniel-Perrin were stand out performers. Brodie was an offensive force to be reckoned with, scoring both Broncos goals and coming close on another. Meanwhile Perrin was a leader from the backside, controlling play when she had to and making big saves often.
This was especially the case early in the contest. The Rattlers began the game with a relentless offensive push. If not for a few huge saves from Perrin in the first 20 minutes the outcome may have been much different.
Instead, Olds worked their way down field where a loose ball found its way to Brodie. Brodie was able to get a run towards the ball before striking it into the far side of the net for her third goal in the past three games.
The Rattlers had a chance early in the first half on a free kick from just outside the box. While the ball got through, Perrin was equal to the task, turning away yet another Rattlers' kick.
The score remained 1-0 until the beginning of the second half. A great ball made its way over top of an outstretched, jumping Rattler, as Brodie chased it down. Much like her first goal, Brodie fired the ball far side and increased the Broncos lead to two.
While the Broncos suffered a slight scare late after allowing a goal in the 80th minute, they were able to run out the clock and come away with a much needed victory.
Player of the game honours were given out after the game to Jordyn Bell-Hamm on the visiting quad, and to Auslin McDaniel-Perrin on the Broncos.
Next on tap for the Broncos is a visit to Lethbridge on Sunday, where kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 P.M. Meanwhile the Rattlers will look to bounce back as they return home to face SAIT tomorrow at noon.
